Date-stamped : 09 Apr97 - 06:24 14 March 1997 Scan Shows Fracture Canterbury cricketer Geoff Allott yesterday heard the bad news he was dreading, but half expecting when a bone scan showed a stress fracture in his lower back. The injury abruptly ended his domestic season just when the left-arm fast-medium bowler was firmly establishing his position in the New Zealand cricket team. "I'm pretty gutted at the moment. We had a fairly good idea what was wrong and the scan confirmed what we suspected," Allott said yesterday. "The specialist thinks I should be okay for the tour of India in May, if selected, and it is a matter now of continuing on and aiming for that tour. Basically, I've got to have five weeks rest from bowling, but I can and will be doing my fitness work with physiotherapist Graeme Nuttridge. Obviously, it is very frustrating."
