* After an uncertain start in the current school cricket season, last year's schools champions Nalanda have got their act together and are performing up to expectations. They lost to St. Sebastians early in the season but came back strongly to hold the Thomians to a draw and defeat Royal.

The Nalandians presently are in a team building process with most of last year's players not eligible to play this year. Right handed opener Shantha Kalavitigoda is the most senior member in the side and quite rightly, will lead the side this year.Kalavitigoda toured Malaysia with the Sri Lanka under 17 team and has a wealth of experience. He has scored over 350 runs this season and has been the main stay in the side, coached by Old Nalandian and former Sri Lanka cricketer Jayantha Seneviratne.

* A fine century by Althaf Ameen (114) helped Bloomfield register a first innings win over NCC in their BCCSL Division two cricket tournament match played at Reid Avenue.

Bloomfield scored 303 for 7 in their first innings and then dismissed their opponents for 198 runs with Shanuka Dissanayake claiming 6 for 19. NCC made 198 for 8 at close in their second innings.
