* The national cricket selectors are due to meet shortly to finalise the 16-member Sri Lanka team for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand which starts later next month. Sri Lanka's cricket pool is currently training under Bruce Yardley and the tour squad is expected to be named later next week.

The national selection committee, headed by Duleep Mendis, is evaluating the progress made by the national poolists in the domestic premier league for the Sara Trophy. Informed sources said Aravinda de Silva (playing for Auckland in New Zealand) and Asanka Gurusinha (playing for North Melbourne in Australia) who are out of the island will return to Colombo within the next fortnight. But Gurusinha's inclusion in the national team depends on what course of action the BCCSL disciplinary committee takes with regard to him giving press interviews here and abroad.

Arjuna Ranatunga has already been appointed captain of the Sri Lanka team which will meet New Zealand in a series of two Tests and three one-day internationals in their one-month tour starting on February 27.
