Jamaican-born West Indies 'A' all-rounder Stuart Williams was to go undergo an operation yesterday at a private hospital after having his nose broken by Sri Lanka's teenage fast bowler Nuwan Soysa.

Williams who came to bat at the fall of the fifth wicket at 52, deflected the first ball he faced on to his face while attempting a pull shot off Soysa. Williams was rushed to hospital where X'rays revealed a broken nose that required surgery.

West Indies 'A' team coach Gus Logie said that they would monitor Williams' progress closely before risk playing him further on the tour.

At the time of the injury Williams was wearing a helmet without a visor.

West Indies 'A' are on a nine-match tour of Sri Lanka which includes a series of three 4-day unofficial Tests and as many oneday internationals. The tourist play a 3-day game against a Board President's XI beginning at the CCC grounds tomorrow.
