Date-stamped : 02 Nov96 - 14:12 Report- SL Daily News Pakistan by 9 wickets Pakistan on Friday won the second one-day international against Zimbabwe by nine wickets to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with one match to play. Zimbabwe, elected to bat first, were all out for 195 in 49.1 overs and Pakistan easily achieved the target in just 28.4 overs. Teenager Shahid Afridi, who scored a breezy 66 in 37 balls, with four towering sixes among his eight boundaries, was declared man of the match. Saeed Anwar was unbeaten on 84 and Ijaz Ahmed remained not out on 32. The Zimbabwe batsmen had no answer to the Pakistan pace and spin attack and were 27 for two after 10 overs. The only sign of resistance came from Guy Whittal and Andy Flower who contributed 40 in the fifth wicket stand of which Whittal, the junior partner, contributed nine. Flower who made a defiant 51, was given wonderful ovation by the sizeable Lahore crowd when he completed his 11th half century. John Rennie, who made 27, was Zimbabwe's second highest scorer, while David Houghton who gave debutant Abdul Razzaq his first wicket, made 25. Razzaq also took the valuable wicket of Andy Flower before leaving the field with a thigh injury. The last match in the series will be played at Peshawar on Sunday. Afridi, who holds the record for the fastest one-day century, blasted a typically aggressive 66 and Anwar made an unbeaten 84 as Pakistan romped home in 28.1 overs after Zimbabwe had been bundled out for 195. Afridi set the match alight with his electrifying innings, striking eight fours and four sixes in only 36 balls, with the two openers bringing up the 100 in only 10.2 overs. After Afridi had been bowled attempting another big drive, Anwar and Ijaz Ahmed steered Pakistan to a comfortable win with a second-wicket stand of 96. Only Andy Flower offered any resistance during Zimbabwe's innings with a half-century, while the off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq took three for 46.
