The most telling statistic on a dead pitch from which runs flowed like blood from a stone was that Tom Moo- dy, passing 500 Sunday runs, recorded 30 singles in his 40, never threatening a boun- dary. All hung on the final six overs with Middlesex, 121 for six in chasing Worcestershire`s 173 for seven, need- ing 53. Richard Johnson, last out after clubbing 29 from 17 balls, was bowled by the penultimate delivery from David Leatherdale with three want- ed. In a match decided by the most austere attack and superb Wor- cestershire fielding Leatherdale triumphed. His four for 31, a career best in his first Sunday bowl this year, followed 50 in 56 balls, the sole innings of note.
