Date-stamped : 10 Oct97 - 06:08 10 October 1997 Zimbabwe confident of victory in tourney By Shaun Orange in Nairobi The tournament from which Zimbabwe are expected to emerge with their first-ever limited-overs cricket title gets under way here today when the hosts take on Bangladesh at the Gymkhana Sports Club. Alistair Campbell's team get their first taste of action in the Trust Bank Tri-Nations tournament tomorrow with a fixture against Kenya, then play Bangladesh the following day. The three teams will face each other twice in the round-robin stages of the competition, with the top two advancing to the final - a best-of-three showdown in which Zimbabwe will be expected to feature and lift the President's Cup, named after the country's President, Daniel arap Moi. In today's encounter there wlil be much at stake as both teams were recently awarded one-day status by the International Cricket Council. For Kenya, who recently hosted Northern Transvaal as part of their preparations for the competition, memories will be kindled of their surprising but well-deserved victory over the West Indies at the World Cup last year. Bangladesh, who have as their manager West Indies legend Gordon Greenidge, will be hoping to get off to a flying start and build on their success at the ICC Trophy, which also won them a ticket to the next World Cup in England in 1999.
