KARACHI, Oct 15: Aamir Sohail has been recalled for the quadrangular cup tournament which starts from Nov 1 and will be competed by world champions Sri Lanka, the West Indies and South Africa. According to well informed sources, Mushtaq Ahmad has pulled out while Mohammad Ramazan and Ali Husain Rizvi have also been dropped. Besides Sohail, the selectors have recalled Aqib Javed, Mohammad Husain and Shahid Afridi.

Aamir Sohail's inclusion for the Sheikhupura Test was widely expected after he slammed a magnificent 128. Nevertheless, he has been accommodated in the quadrangular cup side.

Sohail had a very strong claim for the second Test in the background that a spinning track was being prepared. Sohail could have taken the No 3 spot that would have brought more experience in the batting while the captain would have got an additional bowler with a different variety altogether.

Sohail is a very reliable left-arm spinner and on a number of occasions has grabbed wickets at crucial periods of the game.

It appears that the selector's will utilize Aqib Javed only in one-day internationals, the policy not very bad. Javed, who has a rich experience of bowling at different surfaces, against different oppositions should be availed instead of throwing the bowler in the corner and thus, destroy all the investment that has been done on him. As far as Mushtaq Ahmad is concerned, sources stated that the bowler wants a time off from one-day cricket which is universally acknowledged as more demanding and rigorous task than Test cricket.

Mushtaq, who may be suffering from knee injury, also missed one-day internationals against India at home.

In another major decision, Saeed Anwar has been appointed captain for the remaining two Tests against South Africa and then the quadrangular tournament.

``We want to give him confidence by appointing him the captain for the series against South Africa and the four-nation tournament. As far as the West Indies is concerned, it the PCB Council which appoints a captain,'' sources said on the condition of anonymity.

The appointment of Saeed Anwar in the presence of Wasim Akram has confirmed apprehensions of the pundits of the game that Akram's tenure as captain was now over.

The biggest explanation given by the experts was that the bowler was now more injury prone. ``Besides, he can now concentrate more on his fitness and the matches rather than carrying thousands of things in his mind.''

The 14 for the quadrangular tournament are: Saeed Anwar (captain), Shahid Afridi, Aamir Sohail, Ali Naqvi, Inzamamul Haq, Ijaz Ahmad, Mohammad Wasim, Moin Khan (wicketkeeper), Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohammad Husain, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aqib Javed and Azhar Mahmood.
