Date-stamped : 29 Sep97 - 06:12 Monday 29, September 1997 CBCA sign off rain-marred tour on losing note by Sa'adi Thawfeeq The Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy (CBCA) ended their three-week tour of Sri Lanka on a losing note when they were beaten rather comprehensively by 60 runs by the Sri Lanka Board XI in the one-day 50-over match played at the SSC grounds yesterday. Chasing an imposing total of 265 for victory off 50 overs, the visitors were dismissed for 205 in the 46th over, to leave the one-day series tied at 1-all. CBCA won the first one-day game played at the same venue by 16 runs on Saturday. The weather which had been the bane on this tour, surprisingly kept away yesterday allowing the match to go its full distance. Half-centuries from Avishka Gunawardena (65 off 80 balls, 7 fours) and skipper Hemantha Wickremaratne (66 off 84 balls, 8 fours) enabled the Board XI to recover from 60 for 3 in the 15th over, to their final score of 265 for 8, after deciding to bat first. The pair added 67 for the fourth wicket. However, the momentum to the innings was provided by the sixth wicket pair, Bateesha de Silva (37 off 42 balls, 2 sixes, 3 fours) and wicket-keeper Pubudu Dasanayake (37 off 30 balls, 3 fours) when they added 57 off 41 balls. The CBCA were tied down by accurate bowling and despite a defiant 70 off 114 balls (1 six, 1 four) from the in-form Lee Carseldine, they were never in the running to win the match. Carseldine and skipper Jeff Vaughan who scored 46 off 58 balls (1 four) added 91 for the fifth wicket, but once the stand was broken at 196 in the 44th over, the rest of the batting folded up tamely. Left-arm spinner Amal Dalugoda cleaned up the tail by having the last two batsmen stumped by Dasanayake to finish with figures of 4 for 24.
