Date-stamped : 12 Jan98 - 15:03 10,11,12,13 January 1998 Habib Bank v Agricultural Development Bank, Qadhafi Stadium, Lahore Reports from Dawn Day 2: Salim Elahi's unbeaten 172 puts HBL in driving seat Sports Correspondent LAHORE, Jan 11: A dazzling unconquered knock of 172 by Test discard Salim Elahi and 63 by former Test batsman Salim Malik enabled Habib Bank (HBL) to earn an imposing first innings lead of 248 runs against Agricultural Development Bank (ADBP) on second day of the Patron's Trophy match at the Qadhafi Stadium on Sunday. Replying to ADBP's modest total of 120, HBL had reached 368 for five at stumps. HBL resumed their first innings at overnight score of 58 for no loss. The bankers put ADBP bowlers to the sword as they plundered 310 runs during second day's play. Opener Salim Elahi, who began the day at his personal score of 22, was unbeaten on 172. He has cracked 22 fours during a 308 minutes stay at crease. Elahi and Salim Malik added 139 runs in 107 minutes for the fourth wicket. The two carried Habib Bank from 134 for three to 273 before the partnership ended with the dismissal of Malik. Javed Hayat broke the stubborn fourth wicket stand by clean bowling Malik. His knock of 63 contained 10 elegant boundaries. He stayed at the wicket for 107 minutes. Elahi found another good ally in Naveed Anjum. Both added 68 runs for fifth wicket partnership in 87 minutes. Naveed Anjum left at the total of 341. He was caught and bowled by Mujahid Hameed after contributing 37 runs which contained three boundaries. Right-handed paceman Shoaib Akhtar bowled 24 overs and captured three wickets for 137 runs. Fast-bowler Mujahid Hameed and leg-spinner Javed Hayat took one wicket, each, giving away 62 and 32 runs, respectively.
