Malaysian cricketers arrive

LAHORE, March 13: The 17-member contingent of Malaysian cricket has arrived in the Punjab capital in the wee hours of Friday to take part in the 17th National One-Day Cricket Tournament starting simultaneously at different cities from March 15.

Fifteen players and two officials are included in the squad.

Former Pakistan Test opener Sadiq Muhammad is the coach of the Malaysian team, while Ramesh MenOn is the captain.

Talking to reporters at the Pakistan Cricket Board Academy ground where the Malaysian team practised, Sadiq Muhammad said that his boys were inexperienced and only taking part in the Pakistan National One-Day Tournament as training purpose.

Malaysian manager Rasanayagam said that his team had already played in Karachi in last Ramazan Cup.

He said that the National Sports Council (NSC) of Malaysia was giving priority to cricket and soon would induct more coaches to improve bowling department. However, he hinted that the coaches would be hired from Australia or India.

The visitors will open their tour with a friendly match against Shining Club to be held at the LCCA ground on March 14.

The Malaysian team is in Pool B of the National One-Day Tournament and play LCCA in their opening match at the Qadhafi Stadium on March 19.

Captain Ramesh Menon, K Ramdas, Shankar Ratnam, David Tallale, Segeran, Suresh Singh, Rakesh, Mathew William, John Parkash, Muniandy, Siswanto, Selvaretnam, Jeevan Nair, Vishnu Suppaiah, Chew Pokchong.
