Isipatana, S. Thomas, DSS enter semi-finals
by Dinesh Weerawansa - Thursday 02, April 1998

Isipatana, S. Thomas' and D. S. Senanayake MV won their respective quarter-final matches played yesterday to enter the semi-finals of the Coca-Cola Cup schools knock-out limited-over cricket championship, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Giant killers Maris Stella, who humbled Trinity last week, failed to maintain the same form in going down to D. S. Senanayake MV by 75 runs at Sara Stadium. But the Maris Stonian bowlers did well to bowl out the Wijerama Mawatha team for 147 off 43.5 overs. However, Maris Stella were shot out for 72 off 30.5 overs.

It was a keenly contested battle at NCC grounds where Isipatana registered a dramatic three-run win over St. Sebastian's. Taking the first lease, Isipatana made only 193 all out but their bowlers, led by Kalpa Perera, did well to defend that total. The Moratuwa school made 172 for 9 in 47 overs. Gayan Randiligama had another good game for Isipatana with an useful half century.

There was no play in the fourth quarter-final game between Ananda and Richmond which was to play at Nomads grounds, Vihara Maha Devi Park. The match has been re-scheduled for today due to a water-logged outfield. Yesterday's quarter-final results at-a-glance
