Isipatana in stunning win over Josephians

by Chris Dhambarage An unbeaten knock of 66 by Gayan Randiligama and a penetrative spell of bowling (4 for 16) by K. Perera helped Isipatana to beat the defending champions St. Joseph's by four wickets to enter the quarter-finals of the Coca-Cola Cup Schools Limited-Over Tournament match played at Havelock Park yesterday.

Isipatana, in reply to St. Joseph's total of 169 all out in 46.4 overs, made 170 for 6 in 45.4 overs.

An unbroken second wicket stand of 97 runs between skipper Buddhika Mendis (82 not out) and Prasanna Jayawardena (37 not out) helped St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa to beat St. Sylvester's College, Kandy, by nine wickets in their Coca Cola Trophy pre-quarter-final match played at Moratuwa yesterday. Buddhika had 14 boundaries in his innings while Prasanna had two hits to the ropes and three over it.

St. Sylvester's 165 in 41.2 overs (Suranga Daluwatte 62, Ranga Dissanayake 35, Chanaka Wijesinghe 23, Malshan Fernando 2 for 18, Dilshan Godfred 2 for 21).

S. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia scored a convincing 140-run win over Lumbini MV in their Coca Cola Trophy pre-quarter final limited-over match played at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

The Thomians batting first rattled up 277 for 9 wickets helped by two fine knocks by skipper Upeka Fernando (72) and Nilanka Peiris (72). Lumbini in reply were bundled out for 137 runs with left-arm leg-spinner Suranga Peiris (3 for 24) and paceman Lakmal Fernando (2 for 28) doing the damage.

The Thomians will take on St. Peter's College, Colombo in the quarter-final at the De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa on April 1 (Wednesday).

The 11th annual cricket big match between Sri Dharmaloka MMV, Kelaniya, and Gurukula MV, Kelaniya, played last week at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium ended in a draw.
