Hooper to lead Windies in four-dayer against AQ XI

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: Carl Hooper will lead the West Indies against Dr Abdul Qadeer (AQ) XI in the first four-day game which commences here at KRL Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Announcing the team, Clive Lloyd said they will use the opportunity to get accustomed before playing the first Test at Peshawar. ``We are looking forward to good cricket,'' the former Test skipper and now manager of the West Indies said.

Led by Hooper the touring side includes D. Williams, S. Campbell, P. Wallis, S. Chanderpaul, R. Holder, P. Simmons, R. Lewis, I. Bishop, F. Rose, M. Dillion.

``Brian (Lara) and Courtney (Walsh) are being rested, all the members are in good health,'' the manager said.

The visitors held a net session at the stadium. ``We could not go the full length because there is only one net at the field, but that's okay, we are quite prepared for the game,'' he added.

Following heavy showers over the weekend, the organisers had to fix a few patches towards the pavilion end. However, the pitch and square were firm and in excellent condition. Bright sunlight helped the out field completely dry out on Monday.

Hosts KRL playing their first international game have announced names of 15 players with Naseer Ahmed as skipper. Names of Shahid Afridi, Murtaza Hussain and Waseem Yousufi were also included in the initial side. However, it was learnt Babar Zaman has replaced Shahid Afridi after the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed Afridi's non availability, the whirlwind run getter is presently in Bangladesh.

The likely, KRL XI will comprise Naseer Ahmed (capt.), Babar Zaman, Muhammad Naveed, Bazid Khan, Iftikhar Hussain, Abdul Razzaque, Jaffar Nazir, Waseem Yousufi (wicket keeper), Murtaza Hussain, Maqsood Ahmed and Shakeel Ahmed, however final line up will be disclosed before the match.

Names of Basit Nazir, Naeem Akhtar, Asif Mehmood and Iftikhar Asghar were also announced as part of the first list. Rashid Iqbal is the manager of the team.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan will be introduced to the two sides before the start of the match.
