ALISTAIR Douglas Ross CAMPBELL (Captain). 25 years. Born Salisbury 23 September 1972. Right-hand bat and right-arm off-breaks. Second tour of Sri Lanka, first in 1996-97. In 5 Tests against Sri Lanka has scored 239 runs (avg. 34.14) with one fifty - 99 (Harare) 1994-95. Took over Zimbabwe's captaincy during 1996-97 tour of Sri Lanka, but didn't have a happy baptism losing both Tests and failing to qualify for a final place in the four-nation Singer World Series. Since then has improved his captaincy record with five draws and one loss in 6 Tests. Led Zimbabwe to win 3-nation President's Cup tournament in Kenya 1997-98. One of three Zimbabwean cricketers to appear in all 24 Tests played by the country. Strangely, for all his batting talents, has yet to score a Test century, despite crossing the fifty mark on 10 occasions. His highest score in both Tests and One-day Internationals is against Sri Lanka (see below).

ANDREW 'Andy' FLOWER (Vice-captain). 29 years. Born Cape Town, South Africa 28 April 1968. Left-hand bat and wicket-keeper. Bowls occasional medium-pace. Brother of Grant Flower. Second tour of Sri Lanka, first in 1996-97. In 5 Tests against Sri Lanka has scored 122 runs (avg. 17.42) with one fifty - 50 (Bulawayo) 1994-95. Led Zimbabwe in 11 Tests before relinquishing it after a disappointing World Cup in 1995-96. However had the satisfaction of leading his country to their solitary Test victory over Pakistan (Harare) 1994-95. Laid the foundation for victory with a 269-run fourth wicket stand with brother Grant - the highest between brothers in Test cricket, Andy's contribution was a career best 156. One of three Zimbabweans to appear in all 24 Tests played by the country. Made a memorable entry into one-day cricket scoring an unbeaten century on debut (115 n.o. off 152 balls) and winning Man of the Match award in World Cup match against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth, 1991-92. Was named Man of the Series in recently concluded President's Cup triangular in Kenya which Zimbabwe won, scoring five consecutive fifties in six matches (81, 72, 70, 66, 79). Also shared in record partnerships of 161 for first wicket with Grant v Bangladesh (Nairobi) and 150 for second wicket with Gavin Rennie v Kenya (Nairobi). On two occasions has claimed five dismissals in a match - v South Africa (Harare) 1995-96 and v England (Harare) 1996-97.

GRANT William FLOWER. 27 years. Born Salisbury 20 December 1970. Right-hand bat and left-arm orthodox slow. Brother of Andy Flower. Second tour of Sri Lanka, first in 1996-97. In 5 Tests against Sri Lanka has scored 139 runs (avg. 19.85) with one fifty - 52 (SSC) 1996-97. Became the first player to score two hundreds in a Test for Zimbabwe when he made 104 and 151 v New Zealand (Harare) 1997-98. During the second innings shared a new Zimbabwe record for the first wicket adding 156 with Gavin Rennie. During the innings became Zimbabwe's highest run-getter in Test cricket. Had a prolific series aggregating 387 runs (avg. 96.75). One of three Zimbabweans to appear in all 24 Tests played by the country. One of three Zimbabweans to score a double century in Test cricket, making a career best 201 (n.o.) v Pakistan (Harare) 1994-95 which laid foundation for his country's maiden Test win. Only Zimbabwean batsman to figure in Wisden cricket rankings being ranked 14th. Carried bat out for 84 (not out) out of 205 in one-day international v England (Sydney) 1994-95.

Made Test debut in recently concluded series at home against New Zealand with a fifty (57) and sharing with Andy Flower in a first wicket partnership of 156 at Harare - a Zimbabwe record. Also shared in a Zimbabwe one-day international record second wicket stand of 150 with Grant Flower in match against Kenya (Nairobi) 1997-98, making highest score of 76.

Has played cricket for the past three seasons for Western Australia in Australia's Sheffield Shield competition, before returning to Zimbabwe to challenge for a Test place. Walked straight into Zimbabwe team for tour of Sri Lanka, virtually taking place of David Houghton who has retired to take up coaching. Made first-class debut for Western Australia v England (Perth) 1994-95 scoring 91 and 77.
