Date-stamped : 11 Jul97 - 14:22 Brilliant White gloss By David Green at Leicester Yorkshire (310-5) bt Leicestershire (182) by 128 runs A DISCIPLINED 74 from Martyn Moxon, followed by destructive batting from Craig White (96 not out) and Bradley Parker (69) pro- pelled Yorkshire into the quarter-finals despite a brilliant 90 from Leeds-born left-hander Iain Sutcliffe. Leicestershire were unlucky early on when Yorkshire chose to bat on a humid morning and pacemen Alan Mullally and David Millns promptly passed Moxon and Anthony McGrath a dozen times in as many overs. Moxon, on five, thin-edged a leg-cutter from Mullally, but wick- etkeeper Paul Nixon had moved down the leg side and Moxon es- caped to anchor the innings after Gordon Parsons and Vince Wells had reduced them from 66 for nought to 83 for three. Moxon stood firm to put on 87 with man-of-the-match White who, after struggling for much of the season, has suddenly taken a liking to Leicestershire`s bowling. He made 148 on this ground last Sun- day. After Moxon had holed out on the cover boundary Parker, whose runs came off 49 balls and included three sixes and four fours, scored even faster than White, their partnership of 129 occupying only 15 overs. Faced with such a formidable target, Leicestershire needed a flying start. But Darren Gough`s second ball knocked out Wells` off- stump and when Chris Silverwood induced Darren Maddy to play on and Gough had James Whitaker lbw, Leicestershire were 14 for three. Teasing slow left-arm bowling from Richard Stemp saw Leices- tershire decline to 75 for six in the 28th over. But Sutcliffe and Tim Mason met the crisis boldly, adding 87 in 15 overs. Peter Hartley then flattened Mason`s off-stump, but Sutcliffe swung Silverwood for a spectacular six before the bowler had the last word with a rapid yorker.
