Date-stamped : 28 Apr97 - 06:19 AXA Life League: Hick batters Notts By Neil Hallam Worcs (184-3) bt Notts (183-8) by 7 wkts THE rising tempo of a stand of 102 in 18 overs between Tom Moody and Graeme Hick saw Worcestershire to a seven- wicket victory over Nottinghamshire with eight balls to spare at Trent Bridge. Notts opener Mathew Dowman quickly became the first batsmen to perish run out on the word of the third umpire in televised Sunday games this year as last season`s runners-up rarely broke into a full stride in reaching 183 for eight on a slow, seaming pitch. No television replays were required when Philip Weston was fatally sent back in the fourth over of Worcestershire`s reply but Moody, who holds the record for most runs in a season in this competition, with 917 in 1991, made full amends. His 89 came off only 97 balls and contained seven fours and two sixes, one over extra cover, before he sliced an off- drive. Hick was also severe on off-spinner Richard Bates, whose five overs cost 50 runs, before playing around a full-length ball from former Worcestershire left-arm-seamer Chris Tolley.
