Date-stamped : 05 May97 - 06:15 Cowdrey`s blows good for Kent By Peter Deeley at Canterbury Kent (193-8) bt Surrey (181-8) by 12 runs AN innings of rare power by Graham Cowdrey saw Kent to victory over Surrey, the Sunday League champions, in a contest reduced by rain to 25 overs a side. Cowdrey hit 82 off 46 balls, with seven boundaries and five sixes. Three of his sixes came in Adam Hollioake`s final over in the space of five balls and Cowdrey was caught under the famous Canterbury tree off the final delivery. That blistering attack dented Hollioake`s figures but he still finished with a Sunday best five for 38 off his five overs. With Alec Stewart sporting two bruised fingers, James Knott stepped up behind the stumps for his Sunday debut and, on the ground where his father, Alan, was a revered figure, showed much similar skill and athleticism. Young Knott, 21, shared in the first two Kent dismissals and then scored a brisk 22 when Surrey took up the run chase.
