Date-stamped : 09 Jun97 - 06:16 Derbyshire v Hampshire By Neil Hallam Derbyshire (182-6) beat Hampshire 170-7 by 4 wkts THE oldest player in Derbyshire`s side, opener Kim Barnett, and the youngest, all-rounder Ian Blackwell, made the crucial contri- butions as they beat Hampshire by four wickets for their first Sunday League win of the season. Messrs Duckworth and Lewis, the statisticians responsible for a fearfully complex method of devising targets in rain-affected matches, also had a significant role in ordaining that Derbyshire had to make 181 in 33 overs to beat the Hampshire`s 170 for seven in the same allocation. Chris Adams had already been spilled in the deep before he fell cheaply to a catch at long-off, but Barnett restored foun- da- tions in a second-wicket stand of 65 in 12 overs with Dean Jones. When they perished in consecutive overs, Jones flapping to midwicket and Barnett deceived by Shaun Udal, it was Blackwell, 19 to- morrow, whose 29 off 23 balls did most to get Der- byshire home with five balls to spare. Hampshire, put in on an easy-paced pitch, paid the penalty for poor shot selection in subsiding to 123 for seven in 29 overs, but one over from Glenn Roberts cost 18 as John Stephenson and Simon Ren- shaw added 47 in their last four overs.
