Date-stamped : 12 Aug97 - 10:30 Somerset v Gloucs By David Green Somerset (267-8) bt Gloucs (194) by 73 runs SOMERSET, whose wretched batting display on Saturday was fol- lowed by a lengthy dressing-room discussion with cricket director Dermot Reeve, played convincing cricket to dim Gloucestershire`s title hopes at Taunton. Piran Holloway`s 117, his first one-day century, was compiled off 107 balls with 11 fours and Simon Ecclestone (44) and Peter Bowler (46) provided such quick-scoring support that Somerset were 202 for two after 30 overs. Some ill-judged strokes cost wickets and only 65 runs came from the last 10 overs. Tony Wright and Tim Hancock gave Gloucestershire a good start but Mushtaq Ahmed came on in the 12th over and truly throt- tled them, returning figures of 8-3-14-1.
