WA CRASH OUT OF MERCANTILE MUTUAL CUP SEMIS
Rick Eyre in CricInfo365 - 14 February 1999

Western Australia, one of the traditional forces in Australian one-day  interstate cricket, crashed out of this year's Mercantile Mutual Cup when  they failed to qualify for the semi-finals today.   WA's campaign ended today when they were beaten by New South Wales by 55  runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.  NSW, batting first, made 6/230 from  their fifty overs, all-rounder Shawn Bradstreet blasting 75 not out from 70  balls.  The Western Warriors were dismissed for 175 but not before captain  Tom Moody reminded Australian selectors that he is still available for the  World Cup by scoring 61.  Stuart MacGill again showed his prowess as a  limited-over bowler, taking 3/29 in his ten overs for the Blues. Unusually, both innings began with a wicket from the first ball - Michael  Slater caught by Justin Langer off the first ball of the match from Jo  Angel, and Ryan Campbell caught behind by Phil Emery off Stuart Clark's  bowling at the start of the WA innings.
