The United Cricket Board of South Africa, has restructured the Supersport Series to strengthen the player base in South Africa.
- 1998/1999
- 9 Teams (Northerns, Gauteng, Natal, Border, Eastern Province, Western Province, Boland, Free State and Griqualand West)
- Each team to play 4 home and 4 away matches
- Top two sides to play in a final
- 1999/2000
- Top six teams from 1998/99 to form Division One
- Bottom 3 teams from 1998/99, together with Easterns and North West, to form Division Two
- Division One teams to play 5 home and 5 away matches
- Division Two teams to play 4 home and 4 away matches
- Top two sides in Division One to play in a final
- 2000/2001
- Top side in Division Two (1999/2000) gets promotion to Division One, bottom side in Division One (1999/2000) gets relegated to Division Two
