Bangladesh were forced to follow-on against West Indies A as the Caribbean fast bowlers ripped through the home side batting on the second day of the three-day match at Bangabandhu National Stadium Friday.

The hosts were bundled out for 149 runs in their first innings after the visitors reached 386 for 9 in stipulated 100 overs resuming with the overnight score of 336 runs.

Two Caribbean fast bowlers, Carl Tuckett and Pedro Collins, bowled aggressively to cause the first innings collapse of Bangladesh as their batsmen looked quite helpless in the face of bouncy attack.

For their furious bowling, Tuckett was rewarded with six wickets for 25 runs in 9.1 overs, including four maidens, and Collins with two opening wickets for 39 runs in 9 overs.

Besides the eight wickets, leg-spinner Rawl Lewis captured two wickets for 66 runs in 13 overs with a maiden.

In their second innings, Bangladesh made 89 for 2 in 32 overs as the stumps were drawn Friday. Ian Bishop and Keith Semple took one wicket each for 18 and 23 runs respectively.

After the loss of two openers and needing another 148 runs to avoid an innings defeat, skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul and former captain Akram Khan were on the crease cautiously with 24 and 30 runs respectively.

Earlier, in the morning, West Indies A finished their remaining 10 overs overs as they added 50 runs losing the two overnight wickets of captain Ian Bishop and Rawl Lewis.

With the day's wicket, both Moni and Sumit of Bangladesh captured four wickets each.

Day 3: Tail-ender helps hosts avoid innings defeat

Showing a last-minute feat Bangladesh lost the one-off three-day match by 8 wickets to their mighty opponents West Indies A team at Bangabandhu National Stadium Saturday.

A brilliant innings of veteran Enamul Haq Moni (76 not out) with partnerships with two tail-enders -- Safiuddin Ahmed Babu (25) and Murshed Ali Khan Sumon (32) -- saved the host team a innings defeat.

With the help of three batsmen, Bangladesh finished their second innings at 301 runs in 91.3 overs and 64 runs lead.

In reply, the Caribbean romped home into their victory target of 65 runs losing two wickets in 13.4 overs.

After the departure of two openers, Wavell Hinds and Floyd Reifer finished the match remaining unbeaten. One-down Reifer scored 27 off 38 balls with four fours and Reifer made 28 runs off 22 balls, including five boundaries.

Medium pacer Safiuddin Ahmed Babu took both the Caribbean wickets for 21 runs in 5 overs with two maidens.

Earlier, resuming the overnight score of 89 for two in the their second innings, Bangladesh landed in a big trouble at the beginning of the third day when their all top-order batsmen returned to the pavilion with 160 runs for six on the score board.

Two dependable middle-order batsmen, Aminul Islam Bulbul and Akram Khan, go back to the pavilion when the scoreboard was showing only 127 for four, still needing 110 runs to overcome the innings defeat.

Resuming with 24 runs, skipper Bulbul was the first victim of the day being bowled out by Rawl Lewis contributing only 13 to total 37 runs off 131 balls with two fours.

Former captain Akram Khan made 42 runs off 123 balls, including four boundaries, before being caught by substitute McGarrell in the short extra cover off leg-spinner Lewis delivery.

In the second-wicket stand, Bulbul and Akram contributed team highest 104 off 235 balls in 149 minutes' stay at the crease.

After the losss of another three batsmen, Khaled Mahmud Sujan (24), Khaled Masud Pilot (0), and Al Shahriar Rokon (5), Bangladesh faced an uphill problem to avoid the innings defeat.

But all-rounder Moni and number ten batsman Safiuddin Ahmed Babu's 59-run partnership off 143 balls in the ninth-wicket stand and later last-wicket association of 67 runs off 66 balls between Moni and Sumon pulled the home side out of the miasma.

Left-handed Moni hammered an unbeaten 76 off 134 balls that featured ten hits across the rope and he remained in the crease 201 minutes. He completed his half century off 105 balls with seven boundaries.

The last batsman of the host team, Sumon, scored a superb 32 runs off 33 balls, including four boundaries and a sixer, while Babu made 25 out of 75 balls with five fours.

Captain Ian Bishop was the most successful bowler for the visitors who picked up three wickets conceding 67 runs in 23 overs with 4 maidens.

Medium fast bowler Carl Tuckett, who had shot down six wickets in the first innings, Saturday claimed two wickets for 42 runs in 17 overs. He was adjudged man of the match for his outstanding bowling performance.

Keith Semple and Rawl Lewis also captured two wickets each giving away 34 and 82 runs respectively.

West Indies team left Dhaka for India this (Saturday) evening, concluding their 9-day jaunt in Bangladesh.
