Ribblesdale League: Shahid record

Ribblesdale Wanderers professional Shahid Nawaz shattered the Vaux Ribblesdale League's batting record as he scored 62 runs to keep Wanderers in the championship hunt.

Nawaz reached 1,372 runs for the season, beating Ian Wrigglesworth's record of 1,360 set in 1994. He has already agreed to play another season with Wanderers and made his record score despite one of the worst seasons on record for batting.

Padiham remain top of the table six points ahead of Clitheroe and Ribblesdale as the championship race goes to the last match of the season.

Padiham beat Whalley with Pankaj Tripathi scoring 61 as they secured an eight wicket victory. Earlier Mark Fallon had scored 77 and Andy McNicholas took seven wickets for 36 runs.

Clitheroe also took maximum points from their game with Settle, Andrew Burns scored 56 as they secured a six wicket win.

Ribblesdale earned five points from their victory over Read.

Padiham now need at least two points from the last weekend to be certain of the title.

Cherry Tree easily beat a 10-man Barnoldswick side who were dismissed for 59. Cherry Tree knocked off the winning runs with just two wickets down.

Earby made hard work of victory over Great Harwood after bowling them out for 120. The Applegarth club scraped home with seven wickets down.

Edenfield continued to pile on the agony for Blackburn Northern. Paul Bromley scored 60 as Northern struggled to 119-7 and Edenfield knocked off the winning runs without losing a wicket. John Kershaw scored 65 not out and Nigel Franklin was 46 not out as they took victory.

Oswaldtwistle beat Baxenden who have also struggled this year. Phil Edmondson scored 53 and Dave Usher 94 as Baxenden set a target of 190-3, but Oswaldtwistle made sure of victory with eight wickets down with professional Hanif 88 and Anthony Dignan 51. Jonathan Capstick took 5-98.
