Hampshire v Northamptonshire
Electronic Telegraph
27 April 1998
A RUMBUSTIOUS partnership of 90 in 11 overs between Matthew Keech and
Dimitri Mascarhenas gave Hampshire, whose cause seemed hopeless when they
came together, a thrilling win over Northamptonshire with only three balls
to spare at Southampton.
Hampshire needed only four runs from the last two overs when Keech, foxed
by Franklyn Rose's change of pace, was bowled. But Hampshire lost two more
wickets before the gap was filled, the intrepid Mascarhenas, who remained
unbeaten with 55, clinching the issue with a lofted drive to extra cover.
Mascarhenas, who faced 44 balls, hit three sixes and four fours. Keech's 49
came from 52 balls and contained five fours.
The pillars of Northamptonshire's 199 for three were Mal Loye, who made 65
off 76 balls, and David Capel, with 41.
