Yorkshire v Derbyshire

DERBYSHIRE, requiring a revised target of 123 off 35 overs according to a Duckworth-Lewis calculation, eventually cruised home by five wickets with 11 balls remaining at Headingley.

Darren Gough, energised by the presence of England coach David Lloyd, gave Yorkshire a flicker of hope at the outset. He ripped out the openers, Adrian Rollins and Dominic Cork, via two sharp slip catches by David Byas.

Kim Barnett and Tim Tweats obviously enjoy each others' company after their record championship partnership last year, and put on another 48 together before Tweats played on to Craig White. Gavin Hamilton, though, despatched Ian Blackwell and Vince Clarke in a rapid over of defiance before Barnett's undefeated 51 off 85 balls won the day.

Yorkshire were never really out of the blocks having been inserted, sliding to 24 for four off 13.2 overs on a lively track used in last week's championship match against Somerset, before the first rain squall and stoppage required a five-over reduction.
