Durham (135-4) bt Notts (134) by 6 wkts

DURHAM overcame the manpower crisis which is threatening to undermine early-season promise as a stand of 101 in 15 overs between Michael Foster and Martin Speight thrust them to a six-wicket win in a game at Trent Bridge reduced by rain to 20 overs per side.

With their captain David Boon, John Morris and Jon Lewis joining Paul Collingwood and Simon Brown on the long-term injury list, it was an unfamiliar Durham side who passed a target of 134 with three balls to spare.

Durham were off the pace at the half-way stage but Speight adjusted the run rate with two sixes and Foster scampered 53 off 55 balls.

Nottinghamshire, put in on a pitch already used for three Benson and Hedges Cup ties, declined sharply from 86 for one in 13 overs to 134 all out.

Only Paul Johnson, with 40 off 28 balls, managed to master a Durham attack in which the off-spinner James Boiling took five for 23, his best figures in the competition.
