Derbyshire v Warwickshire

By Neil Hallam at Derby

17 May 1998

Warwicks (201-7) bt Derbys (154) by 47 runs

AN enterprising and hard-running stand of 109 in 18 overs between Dougie Brown and Dominic Ostler proved decisive as Warwickshire added to Derbyshire's woes with a 47-run victory with four overs to spare.

Left-arm-spinner Ashley Giles celebrated his inclusion in England's Texaco Trophy squad with four for 17 as Derbyshire, who have only a Benson and Hedges Cup group win over Scotland to show for their last seven fixtures, subsided for 154 in pursuit of a target of 202.

Warwickshire's captain Brian Lara was unable to field after being struck on the leg when hitting out against Dominic Cork, who took three for 30, but Brown responded to his omission from England's one-day squad by making 63 off 59 balls while Ostler's 62 required 81.
