Northamptonshire v Glamorgan

Glamorgan (177-5) bt Northants (239-7) by 5 wkts (D-L method)

GLAMORGAN, inspired by an innings of 77 not out in 41 balls from acting skipper Tony Cottey, completed their first AXA victory since June 29.

With the visitors' innings halted by a deluge at Northampton after 32 balls when they were 22 for one, Glamorgan faced a stiff reassessed target of 174 in 24 overs yet got home with three balls to spare.

For Mal Loye, recipient of a congratulatory fax from Raman Subba Row, whose county record he spent Whit weekend breaking with 322 not out, an AXA innings of 20 was like the small change George Soros finds behind his sofa.

Yet until Jeremy Snape arrived at 99 for six in the 21st over, also to hit an unbeaten 77, his best in all cricket, Loye looked about as good as Northants would get on an undistinguished day.
