Somerset v Surrey

Somerset (130-3) bt Surrey (127) by 7 wkts

SOMERSET completed a memorable double over Surrey, who remain bottom of the AXA League after their fourth defeat of the season.

The joint championship leaders were never in the hunt at Taunton, having lost the toss on a bouncy greentop, and slid to 127 all out before Mark Lathwell's forthright undefeated 64 led Somerset home with 10.1 overs to spare.

Surrey face Lancashire in a Benson and Hedges quarter-final clash at the Oval tomorrow and the batting will come under close scrutiny after they failed to combat a venomous opening spell from Andy Caddick, who found consistent lift and movement and was the pick of an excellent seam attack.

Surrey, a parlous 47 for six at the halfway stage, were in dire need of sustinence and Ian Ward supplied it through a solid 45 not out, supported by Ian Salisbury, who made 33.
