Warwickshire v Nottinghamshire

By Mike Beddow

25 May 1998

Notts (122-3) bt Warwicks (102-9) by 7 wkts (D-L method)

PAUL STRANG took six wickets from 15 balls in the frenzy of Warwickshire's failed attempt to avoid a first home defeat in the AXA League for two years.

After a two-hour break for rain, the champions were given seven more overs to lift their score from 45 for three when the match was arbitrarily reduced to 24 overs each. There was only one course of action and Strang withstood the bombardment.

In his second over, David Hemp hit a six but was bowled next ball, and in his third, two wickets fell in successive deliveries. The last included three more dismissals in four balls.

Nottinghamshire, set a revised target of 120, won with nine balls to spare despite a late wobble when Matt Dowman and Paul Johnson were dismissed after a partnership of 77.
