Essex v Surrey at Chelmsford
The Electronic Telegraph
14 June 1998
ESSEX moved up to joint leadership after winning their rain-affected
game with bottom county Surrey which was decided by the
Duckworth-Lewis method.
Surrey followers felt the umpires should have brought the sides off
when rain was again falling after eight overs when the visitors were
44 for five to give them two points in an abandoned match.
Essex followers thought Surrey's batsmen were taking far too long to
get out to the middle - where Ronnie Irani took two wickets in
successive balls and Darren Cousins secured three in his three overs.
