Hampshire v Derbyshire at Basingstoke
The Electronic Telegraph
21 June 1998
ROBIN SMITH'S domination of the Derbyshire bowling continued at
Basingstoke where his century in the championship match was followed
by a decisive unbeaten 88 in the AXA League.
Brimming with authority after the early loss of John Stephenson, Smith
paced his innings with measured care, hitting nine boundaries as
Hampshire won by seven wickets with 14 balls to spare.
Smith's other major contribution to Hampshire's fifth win of the
season was to win the toss, his decision to field first vindicated as
Derbyshire struggled on a drying wicket. From 25 for four, it needed
all Kim Barnett's experience to guide Derbyshire to 160 for nine.
