SCOTLAND duly exacted revenge on Bangladesh, at Hamilton Crescent, Glasgow, on Saturday, by sweeping to a convincing 40-run victory in the first of three one-day internationals for the Cairn Trophy.
Last year the Scots lost to the same opponents in Kuala Lumpur in the semi-final of the ICC Trophy but on this occasion their all-round strength prevailed.
Scottish captain George Salmond's innings of 81, coming off just 85 deliveries and including nine fours and a six, laid the foundations for Scotland's 246 for seven.
Bangladesh's reply began when Brinkley, bowling at half-pace, snapped up two early wickets, the second through a brilliant catch at cover by Gregor Maiden.
A fourth-wicket stand of 77 between Mohammed Rafique and Aminul Islam redressed the balance with both reaching vigorous half-centuries but their departure signalled a collapse.
In a challenge match yesterday, separate to the Cairn trophy, a young Scotland XI containing four youth team internationals, lost by two wickets at Greenock.
