Sri Lanka wrapped up the one-off Test match in
style at The Oval of Monday afternoon with Muttiah Muralitharan taking 16 for 220, the 5th best Test
bowling figures of all-time. In the second innings the spinner took 9 wickets for just 65 and would
have been responsible for all ten had Alec Stewart not been run out.

After England were all out for 181, the Sri Lankans needed just 36 for victory, a
target they achieved in five overs and with all ten second-innings wickets intact;
a perfect end to a highly successful tour. Sri Lanka played their first test in England
since 1991, and a sell out crowd turned out at The Oval to watch the World Champions.
The tourists also won the Emirates Triangular Tournament Final, beating England by 5 wickets.
The competition was contested between England, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
