      Day 1

    • An initial toss was conducted on the steps of the Australians dressing room, the Sri Lankan Board XI winning. After an objection was raised by Australians captain SR Waugh, a second toss was made on the ground this time won by the Australians. A third toss was then conducted and won by the Sri Lankan Board XI, thus the toss was a 'best of three' result.
    • Rain delayed the start of play for approximately 2.5 hours.
    • Rain again stopped play after 13 minutes for another 2 hours.
    • Rain ended play early

      Day 2

    • MJ Slater was absent from the ground for the entire days play with illness.
