Winstonians v Old Georgians
Clive Ruffell - 5 March 2000

It was a great day for the young and enthusiastic Winstonians side as they notched up an impressive first win of the season against Old Georgians. Batting first, Winstonians compiled a respectable 208 all out with half-centuries from Chawaguta and new national recruit Tatenda Taibu. Captain Gus Mackay was the pick of the OG bowlers and accounted for the middle and lower order batsmen, as Winstonians failed to cash in on a solid start. OGs' bowlers were again too loose, conceding 14 extras in wides and no-balls. Mackay returned the excellent figures of 5/27 off 9.1 overs.

The OGs batting proved brittle once again with only Mackay and Oberholzer making any useful contributions as the visitors crashed to a dismal 129 all out in just 31 overs. Masakadza wrapped up the tail with 4/8 off just 4 overs while Maungwa impressed with the new ball to claim 2/19 off 7.

It was a good game personally for Gus Mackay with five wickets and 62 runs, but the Groombridge side have failed to pick themselves up after the nailbiting loss to Alexandra in the National League a few weeks ago. For Winstonians it was a notable victory for a promising side on the way up.

The scorers did not trouble to note who took the catches in their scorecards.
