  • A very competent all-round performance saw Berkshire take 19 points from a possible 25 after being put in by Buckinghamshire.

  • The opening stand of 87 by Adrian Jarvis (64) and Martin Bushell (28) was a forerunner of the Berkshire innings as all the top five batsmen made runs at a good rate with skipper Nils Mordt (43) looking particularly impressive. Tom Heath (33) and Matthew Orford, who scored 30 off just 36xb with some excellent shots, saw Berkshire able to declare on 229 for 6 in 54 overs.

  • In reply Buckinghamshire made a steady start but were soon in trouble as Anthony Parson, bowling quite superbly, took three wickets in six overs for the loss of only three runs. Needing to consolidate opener C Allfrey and A Russell built a slow but steady partnership of 54 runs which was finally broken when Mordt introduced Heath to the attack.

  • With a wicket Maiden as his first over and two further wickets in quick succession Heath looked as though he might be the catalyst for a Berkshire win but despite a fourth wicket to a fine catch by wicketkeeper Tom Burrows and good support from Jarvis with a wicket and a run out, Buckinghamshire just held out for 138 for 9 off 58 overs.
