Eden Gardens, Kolkata, was the venue for the second encounter in the three Test match series
for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India. The Aussies had won the first Test
match at Mumbai and extended their winning streak to 16. The big question was whether the
Indians would put up a fight against the almost invincible Australians. Time has always a story
to tell and the Indian camp was looking forward to a change in fortunes. India went into the
Kolkata Test match as the underdogs and were forced to make three changes to their bowling
department. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Soon Michael Slater was caught
by VVS Laxman at second slip off a Saurav Ganguly no-ball. A big let off, much to the Indian
captain's chagrin!
