India were 155 runs away from a Test victory and a series win
against the Australians. Steve Waugh's dream of conquering the "Final Frontier"
was withering away. In the fifth over of the Indian second innings, Glenn McGrath
removed SS Das (9) caught and bowled. S Ramesh and VVS Laxman put together 58
runs in a hurry for the second wicket. Ramesh (25) ran himself out at 76. Jason
Gillespie sent back Sachin Tendulkar (17) and Saurav Ganguly (4) in quick succession.
Colin Miller accounted for Rahul Dravid (4). India were in trouble at 122/5,
still 33 runs away from victory. They had Laxman still at the crease and he
was in good touch. Gillespie was bowling at his very best and the ball that
got rid of Tendulkar was a beauty, fast, short and rising to take the gloves
and give Mark Waugh a simple catch.
