Pre-game: Day 1 - Delay, Day 1 - Inspection,

STILL NO PLAY IN INDIAN TOUR MATCH

The prospects of play on the first day of India’s four-day match against a South African A team on Saturday receded after a midday inspection of the outfield by the umpires. Despite the efforts of the groundstaff the conditions were still not fit for play and a further inspection was scheduled for 1pm.

However, the general view was that the outfield would still not have dried sufficiently to allow play and it is likely that play will be called off for the day. To make matters worse for the tourists, more rain is forecast for Saturday night.

START OF INDIA TOUR MATCH DELAYED

Heavy overnight rain which left puddles of water on the outfield delayed the start of India’s four-day match against a South African A side at Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday.

For the Indians, the scene was reminiscent of those at Chatsworth two weeks ago when all three days of their match against a President’s XI had to be abandoned because of the condition of the outfield.

But with the sun out and the umpires due to make an inspection at 12 noon, the prospects of the game getting under way at some stage seemed promising.
