South Africans innings: Drinks, Innings,

SOUTH AFRICANS SET AUSTRALIA 'A' MODERATE TARGET

South Africa were restricted to a moderate 215 for nine in their 50 overs despite half-centuries from Jonty Rhodes and Shaun Pollock in their one-day tour match against Australia 'A' in Adelaide on Thursday.

The South Africans, desperate for some sort of form after their capitulation against Australia in the Test series, made a poor start, losing their first three wickets with only 30 on the board and although Rhodes and Pollock managed some repairs to the innings with a sixth-wicket stand of 94, their final total did not seem likely to present too much of a challenge to the home team.

Rhodes eventually made 69 with Pollock getting 56 while Simon Katich picked up three quick wickets towards the end of the innings for 21

RHODES TO THE RESCUE

Jonty Rhodes came to South Africa's rescue with a half-century after the top order had collapsed in the tour match against Australia 'A' in Adelaide on Thursday.

After opting to bat first, the South Africans lost Gary Kirsten for 4, Jacques Kallis for 1 and Neil McKenzie for 4 to slip to 30 for three.

Herschelle Gibbs went for 22 and when Mark Boucher was caught by Mark Higgs off Stuart MacGill for 14, the South Africans were in disarray at 79 for five.

But Rhodes, who missed the Test series against Australia, and Shaun Pollock rebuilt the innings with a sixth-wicket stand.

When second drinks were taken after 38 overs, South Africa were 146 for five with Rhodes on 55 and Pollock on 38.
