No Australian batsman was safe from the guile of Harbhajan Singh. In the absence of ace leg spinner Anil Kumble, India desperately needed someone else to don the mantle of strike bowler. Cometh the hour, cometh the man! Harbhajan Singh bowling with a whippy high arm action extracted enough bounce and prodigious turn to keep the batsmen guessing at all times. Of the 32 wickets that Harbhajan managed to snare, the easiest, surprisingly were the numerous times the Punjab off spinner dismissed Ricky Ponting. Usually an attacking batsman with positive foot work, Ponting was all at sea against Harbhajan and was well and truly his ‘bunny’ by the end of the series. Perhaps that epitomised the way things had gone for Harbhajan against the mighty Aussies more than anything else.
