Hong Kong team in Tanzania

The Hong Kong team travelled to Africa in October 2008 to contest the six-team ICC World Cricket League Division 4 tournament in the Tanzanian capital of Dar-es-Salaam. There, they met the three other teams demoted from the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament played in Darwin in 2007 - Fiji, Italy and Tanzania - plus the two finalists from the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 tournament - Afghanistan and Jersey.
Finalists of the Tanzanian tournament will gain promotion to the ICC World Cricket League Division 3, with an event to be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina in January 2009. The finalists from the Divsion 3 tournament will qualify for ICC World Cup Qualifier (formerly the ICC Trophy) - a 12-team event to be played in the UAE in April 2009 [see ICC World Cricket League Explained | ICC WCL Structure PDF 191KB]. Teams finishing third and fourth in Tanzania will remain in Division 4 but teams finishing in fifth and sixth spots will be demoted to Division 5.
As part of it's preparations for the tournament, the Hong Kong team traveled to Sri Lanka to undertake training and play matches against teams from the Sri Lankan Cricket Academy.
