JET AIRWAYS CHECKS-IN WITH HONG KONG CRICKET SIXES

Hong Kong Cricket SixesHong Kong, September 29, 2010 – India’s second largest airline Jet Airways has jumped on board the Karp Group and PC Jeweller (P) Ltd Hong Kong Cricket Sixes bandwagon signing up as the official carrier for the November 6-7 tournament at the Kowloon Cricket Club.

The move by Jet Airways to check-in with the popular tournament is a huge shot-in-the-arm for the event as it opens the door to the huge market of cricket-crazy fans in India.

“The fact that we have one of the biggest airlines from India backing us is a huge boost as this could open the door for more fans from India to come to Hong Kong,” said Hong Kong Cricket Association chairman Dinesh Tandon.

“Bringing in tourists has always been one of our major goals. I know the Hong Kong Sixes is hugely popular in India and on the subcontinent. By partnering with Jet Airways, we can now offer the fans an easy way to arrive in Hong Kong,” Tandon added.

With the potential of tapping the huge market of cricket-crazy Indian fans made easy, and the fact that the tournament will be shown live on the sub-continent to more than 80 million households, the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is on the verge of attracting large number of overseas fans.

Bharath Mahadevan, Hong Kong regional manager for Jet Airways, said: “Jet Airways is proud to be the official carrier for the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2010. We are proud to be associated with promoting the sport in Hong Kong as well as promoting tourism into Hong Kong.”

Jet Airways which is owned by London-based billionaire Naresh Goyal operates over 400 flights daily from India to 67 destinations worldwide. It has connections through Hong Kong to London and Johannesburg, South Africa. The airline will offer Hong Kong Sixes packages, which will include tickets as well as hotel rooms, to fans hoping to soak in the atmosphere at one of the world’s most unique tournaments.

“We are delighted to welcome Jet Airways to be the official carrier for the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes as they will be associating themselves closely with the promotion of sports and tourism in Hong Kong,” said Captain Shazada Saleem Ahmed, president of the Hong Kong Cricket Association.

Eight countries will take part in the two-day tournament, battling it out for a total prize money of US$150,000. They are Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand and Hong Kong. China’s Asian Games squad will also play an exhibition match during the tournament.
