South Africa is the other team: Australia: Mark Taylor, Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden, David Boon, Mark Waugh, Allan Border (c), Steve Waugh, Ian Healy, Shane Warne, Craig McDermott, Paul Reiffel, Tim May, Glen McGrath. New Zealand: Ken Rutherford (c), Mark Greatbatch, Blair Pocock, Bryan Young, Rod Latham, Chris Harris, Tony Blain, Chris Cairns, Dipak Patel, Danny Morrison, Richard de Groen, Shane Thomson, Chris Pringle, Gavin Larsen. Australia have kept the same 12 that have performed so well in the test series, but have added the prolific Matt Hayden. He will probably play first up. New Zealand have made four changes. Andrew Jones goes home for family reasons, but should be available after the New Year. Simon Doull is carrying an injury, whilst Murphy Su'a and Mark Haslam are not the type of bowlers required for the one-day game. They have been replaced by Thomson, Latham, Pringle, and Larsen. The last three of these are really one-day specialists whilst Thomson should have been in the team anyway as Martin Crowe's replace- ment. The New Zealand tour management said batsman Andrew Jones and bowlers Mark Haslam, Murphy Su'a and Simon Doull would be returning home, to be replaced by Rod Latham, Shane Thomson, Gavin Larsen and Chris Pringle. Jones is returning to New Zea- land for the birth of a child while the three relegated bowlers are not suited to one-day cricket. The four new players are expected to arrive in Australia by Wednesday in time for the team's opening match against South Africa in Adelaide on Saturday. Larsen, Latham and Pringle were all an integral part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 1992 one-day World Cup. Jones is expected to be available for the second block of one-day games after Christmas and the tourists are also banking on the return of injured captain Martin Crowe. Crowe returned home for knee surgery a fortnight ago but the master batsman will be struggling to be available for the one-day series. The squad: Ken Rutherford (capt), Blair Pocock, Rod Latham, Bryan Young, Mark Greatbatch, Shane Thomson, Gavin Larsen, Chris Harris, Tony Blain, Dipak Patel, Chris Cairns, Danny Morrison, Chris Pringle, Richard De Groen.
