INDIA v SOUTH AFRICA 1991-92
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1993

At Gwalior, November 12. India won by 38 runs. Toss: South Africa. India ensured victory in the three-match series after another poor performance by South Africa, though the game was overshadowed by the revelation that the touring team had, in effect, accused the Indians of cheating by tampering with the ball during the opening match. Having been put in after fog delayed the start, India's openers, Sidhu and Srikkanth, put on 130 in 28 overs. The later batsmen failed to capitalise on this start and South Africa were going well at 144 for three. But the Indians held some good catches in the deep – Kapil Dev's to dismiss Richardson was superb – and the result was not in doubt for long.

A Crowd of 25,000 filled the Roop Singh stadium, chosen because Gwalior was the home town of the Indian Board president, Madhavrao Scindia. There was some rock-throwing but the crowd demonstrated their hospitality by aiming only at the Indians: two fielders, Raju and Sidhu, required treatment.

Men of the match: S. V. Manjrekar and K. C. Wessels.
