Date-stamped : 03 Nov93 - 06:03 I've just received the official reworded amendment slip concerning Law 42.9. The old law is replaced; now a bowler will be no-balled, cautioned etc., regardless of intent, if he bowls a beamer. The original amendment was ambiguously worded, and the new version defines the beamer as, ".. a ball that passes, or would have passed, on the full above waist height of a Batsman standing upright at the crease." Also of interest is that EITHER umpire may call no-ball in this case. (Only other example I can think of is that either umpire may call no-ball for throwing).
