SRI LANKA v AUSTRALIA 1992-93
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994

At Khettarama Stadium, Colombo, September 4. Sri Lanka won on scoring-rate. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Australia were put in on a wet pitch hastily prepared after the intended strip was damaged by heavy traffic during the Test match which finished two days earlier. After a steady start they lost momentum against Hathurusinghe, who moved the ball sharply off the seam, and off-spinner Kalpage, who cleverly varied his length and pace and bowled with impressive economy. Jones played intelligently for 59, eliciting useful support from Boon and Border.

Rain cut six overs and Sri Lanka's target was reduced to 191. They achieved it with seven balls to spare, thanks to the efficiency of De Silva, with 63 from 61 balls, and Hathurusinghe, who returned to bring up his fifty with the winning boundary after retiring with a severe bout of leg cramp.

Man of the Match: U. C. Hathurusinghe.
