AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994

At Sydney, December 8 (day/night). Australia won by 14 runs. Toss: West Indies.

Three days of rain had soaked the pitch and left it soft and treacherous. Both captains said it was unfit for play but the umpires ordered a match reduced to 30 overs that produced exciting, if unreal, cricket. The ball moved sharply off the pitch and batting was so difficult that Jones's 21 off 53 balls was the highest individual innings. As influential as the bowling was the catching of Taylor, who held four of high quality in the slips, for which he was named Man of the Match. It was a happy conclusion to his first game as captain in place of the injured Border.

Man of the Match: M. A. Taylor.

Attendance: 32,184.
